White, golden or black, the sand on the beaches of Gran Canaria comes in different colors. One of the most beautiful beaches is Playa de Amadores. It is located in the south protected by the wind. In the 1960s began the construction boom and mass tourism in Gran Canaria. But with the sea views and warm feet on the warm sand, one quickly forgets the architectural misdeeds.

You will find dunes… lots of dunes! Six kilometers of fine sandy beaches stretch along the southern tip of the island. Behind them lies a spectacular dune landscape, also known as the “Mini-Sahara”. Tourists like to walk here in the evening and enjoy the sunset from a sandy hill.

A rainbow flag flies over a section of beach in Maspalomas. Gran Canaria is also a popular destination for the gay community. Numerous LGTBI hotels cater to this type of customer. Their meeting place is the Yumbo Center in the resort of Playa del Ingles. In this shopping center there are gay-friendly bars and drag shows. Once a year there is an LGTBI festival with parades and parties.

The promenade is a good place to stroll and you can rent boats for excursions around the island. On one of the piers you can watch the fishermen counting and sorting their catch.

Artenara is the highest village of Gran Canaria. Many people still live in caves carved into the volcanic rock. This is how the original inhabitants lived before the Spanish conquered the island in the 15th century. One of the oldest living caves in Artenara is now a museum. Fully furnished, it shows the daily life of the time.

The Cathedral of Santa Ana is the heart of the old town of Las Palmas. Art, museums, theaters and concerts offer a rich cultural life. Carnival is celebrated two weeks a year, with magnificent costumes and prolonged parties.

Gran Canaria is just one of several islands that make up the Canary Islands – constant ferries and inter-island flights link all seven islands of the archipelago, meaning you can easily see and experience all that La Gomera, Tenerife, La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and El Hierro have to offer!

If you are looking for a special destination where nature and all its wildlife come together in harmony with the cheerful charisma of its people, Tenerife Island is undoubtedly the place for you.
